All around the world there are many different kinds of people. Every person has a separate taste, depending on their surroundings and culture. There are some foods that appeal to many in an area, where if they were shown at a different place or time, could be judged differently. I guarantee you will most likely have no clue of what some of these foreign snacks might be, so I hope you enjoy reading about them. If you enjoy some of these foods, don’t forget to tell someone about these international concoctions!

   Britain

A very tasty snack from Britain is called, “Berwick Cockles”. This unusually named snack is a small peppermint type of treat. They are a bit crumbly with a red stripe down through the middle. It originated in northern England in a town called Berwick-upon-Tweed. You can find them online, or if you’re lucky, you might find some in British stores near you. Another unusual snack you may find from Britain is the, “Tablet”. This is an easy snack to make at home because it’s only ingredients are condensed milk, butter, and sugar. It is said to be the replacement for fudge. You should try making it at home after searching the recipe online.

Holland

A worldwide favorite, Holland has many delicious treats. A well known one is the Stroopwafel. This wonderful treat was made in Gouda, Holland in the 1800s. It is made of two waffle cookies, shaped to look like a sandwich with a syrup in the middle. You can find them in every store in Holland or you can buy them at markets somewhere else in the world (most likely Europe but occasionally the U.S).

A favorite for Dutch children is Hagelslag. They are a dutch version of chocolate sprinkles. They are made in many shapes and forms. They are usually used on bread in Holland, but are also very tasty on some ice cream (which you could find a lot in Holland because practically everyone rides on a bicycle and stops to grab a quick scoop).
